Q: How is the length of content delivery calculated?
A: The calculation of content delivery is based on the amount of playable and readable material within a course. This is calculated using the total audio run-time for a course and the number of knowledge checks* within the course.
- Knowledge check calculation is based on the NASBA standard: each question takes an average of 1.85 minutes
- Readable material calculation is based on the NASBA standard: 180 is the words per minute of the average reader
- Playable material calculation is based on the NASBA standard: actual audio/video duration time
Formula: [(# of words for readable material only/180) + (actual audio/video duration time) + (# of questions x 1.85)] / 50 = # of course hour(s)
*Note: you divide by 50 because each course hour is equivalent to 50 minutes.
Q: How is course hour credits eligibility calculated?
A: The calculation of course hour credits for online courses varies based on the length of the course. Note: according to the NASBA standard, course hours can be awarded in 1/5th increments. See the example below:
- For courses with content delivery of 10 minutes or more, we offer a certificate of completion that may be redeemable for .2 course hour/credit.
- For courses with content delivery of 12.5 minutes or more, we offer a certificate of completion that may be redeemable for .25 course hour/credit.
- For courses with content delivery of 50 minutes or more, we offer a certificate of completion that may be redeemable for 1 course hour/credit.
- For courses with content delivery of 75 minutes or more, we offer a certificate of completion that may be redeemable for 1.5 course hours/credits.
- For courses with content delivery of 100 minutes or more, we offer a certificate of completion that may be redeemable for 2 course hours/credits.
